GLYCERINE

We use organic glycerine as a natural additive. It not only helps with the stabilization of products but helps to keep the natural plant extracts and other active ingredients on the skin for longer.

OLIVE AND GRAPESEED OIL

These oils are the base for all of our products. Both nourishing and protective, these oils carry the valuable plant extracts that maintain good health and have wonderful properties of their own.

Natural Oils

TRIODIA PUNGES (SPINIFEX RESIN)

Spinifex resin comes from a native grass that covers about 40% of Australia. Soft spinifex is found across the top end of Australia in the states of the Northern Territory, Western Australia and northern Queensland.
Resin was typically harvested by Aboriginal Australians across the mainland for its adhesive properties, especially in the making of stone cutting tools as the resin bonds well to wood and stone.

Spinifex grass resin is also collected by little black ants in some parts of the country and transformed into one of Australia’s most extraordinary bush blends. It is among this soft spinifex that one might find the illusive anthills that have many uses by local people in these parts. The names given to these anthills differ widely as there are over 100 Aboriginal languages across the country. Used by some indigenous tribes in the Northern Territory and

Queensland to manage pesky mosquitos, the resin collected by ants is placed on coals for this purpose and the smoke gives off an earthy aroma that is both grounding and slightly sweet.

CALLITRIS INTRATROPICA
(BLUE CYPRESS)

This native cypress grows in
the woodlands of the Northern Territory and has been used by Indigenous Australians for many generations to help with the healing of insect bites, which are common in the tropics. As an effective anti-inflammatory, it offers temporary relief from arthritic conditions, aches and pains.
When distilled, the oil is naturally blue in colour and acts as an excellent deterrent for sand-flies and biting insects. The oil helps soothe painful bites and reduces inflammation and itching.

SANTALUM SPICATUM
(AUSTRALIAN SANDALWOOD):

This magnificent tree grows naturally across Western and Southern Australia and is still harvested from the wild by Western Australian Indigenous people. Sandalwood is one of Australia’s most valued medicinal oils, known worldwide for its calming effect on the mind, helping to reduce tension and encouraging mental clarity and relaxation.
As a protected tree, sandalwood is now commonly grown in plantations. This rare and exquisite oil, rich in earthy woody fragrance is also known to be soothing on painful joints and muscles.

KUNZEA AMBIGUA (KUNZEA)

There is no recorded use of this plant by Indigenous Australians. The rare chemical compounds of kunzea have been found to provide excellent relief from pain caused by arthritis, inflammation and muscle strains.
Fresh and full of aroma, kunzea is fast becoming one of Australia’s most popular medicinal oils. The shrub grows wild in Victoria, NSW and in Tasmania and is gaining popularity for its additional ability to soothe the symptoms of stress and tension.

MELALEUCA ERICIFOLIA (ROSALINA)

This beautiful tree grows in the wetlands of Australia and is an excellent insect repellent, also helping to heal insect bites. Interestingly this tree grows in areas where mosquitos and other insects tend to thrive..

AGONIS FRAGRANS (FRAGONIA)

Fragonia is one of Australia’s newest medicinal discoveries and grows naturally in Western Australia. Used very successfully to balance and regulate emotions and to bring about calm and rest, fragonia has the uncanny ability to take the edge off tension and promotes a feeling of peacefulness and balance.

MELALEUCA TERETIFOLIA
(HONEY MYRTLE)

This myrtle is a relatively new oil to the Australian market.
It is known to calm the effects of flu, coughing, and breathing difficulties. Growing naturally in Western Australia, honey myrtle is produced to assist in relaxation and as an anti-depressive, calming and nurturing the nervous system and bringing relief to mental strain.

MELALEUCA QUINQUENERVIA CT NIAOULI (NIAOULI)

This tree grows tall on the
east coast of Australia. It was first observed that Aboriginal Australians were boiling leaves of the tree and using it to treat infections and respiratory conditions. Today it is widely used as a decongestant, opening up the airways and helping to clear phlegm. This oil will often help ease coughing and congestion whilst assisting to fight respiratory infections.

EUCALYPTUS

Eucalyptus or ‘gum’ trees come in a great range of shapes and sizes and the sight and smell of eucalypts are a defining part of Australian life. Aboriginal Australians have a historical connection to the tree. It’s fast growing branches make for excellent fire wood and building material and the leaves, gum and bark can be used for medicine and food in some species. There are probably around 700 species of eucalyptus, all of which have their own unique properties. Australians have used this tree for many generations and continue to use the leaves, bark and resin for various purposes.

CORYMBRIA CITRIODORA
(LEMON EUCALYPTUS)

Native to Australia, this tree is said to be the richest source of citronella in the world, making it an excellent repellent.
Early settlers also harvested the leaves to keep out cockroaches and silverfish from clothing.

EUCALYPTUS DIVES
(EUCALYPTUS PEPPERMINT GUM)

is unique among the gum trees as it contains piperiton. It is known to provide relief to asthmatic conditions and to assist breathing. Calming and soothing, peppermint gum is also useful in recovery from pneumonia or pleurisy.

EUCALYPTUS RADIATA
(EUCALYPTUS AUSTRALIANA)

Is one of the more commonly used eucalyptus trees found in Victoria and particularly known for its powerful antibacterial properties, relieving coughing, colds and flu like symptoms like headaches, aches and pains. It is reported to relieve bronchitis, respiratory tract infections, cold and fever.

FLOWERS OF SULPHUR

Sulphur is a compound present in every cell of the body and has the ability to provide relief to painful joints. As well as reducing pain and swelling, sulfur is said to break down the toxins that cause inflammation.

I enjoy the native herbal ingredients and the traditional medicine wisdom behind the Yakula products. My favourite is the Shuteye, that I use everynight before going to bed.
